End of ESA payments, what next? was created by Darthcranium
Long story short, please forgive the bullet points, they help to organise my thoughts.
I suffered a brain injury 6 years ago.
I was on IB then ESA. I was put into the WRAG after being scored 39 points by ATOS.
I am going through the appeal process to ask to be moved to the support group.
The reconsideration failed, next stop tribunal.
I had letters from a Dr neuro psychologist and an occupational therapist in support of my appeal and original ATOS test.
They both told me recently that my desperate plan to do some part time work was most likely beyond me.
The ESA comes to an end in June, and as it's the only benefit I get I am getting quite worried about this.
Am I right in thinking that I won't be able to claim JSA as I would have to be "applying for full time work" or something? Much as I'd love to be, I won't be able to.
Can I reapply for ESA? Starting again with a fresh application? The tribunal could be many months away.
Because I had appealed the man at the Job Centre told me that I didn't have to go to the "training" (or whatever it is?) but I could choose to go, but I would face sanctions if I was then unable to go. So, I chose not to take that risk.
I think I got that right, but my memory isn't great.
I have a "work focused interview for employment and support allowance claimants" tomorrow at the Job Centre, and I am making a list of questions to ask.
Sorry to ask, but what should I be asking?
Life is complicated enough and I am not looking forward to this next hurdle.
Many thanks for any advice/sympathy.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

When your Contributary ESA ends you might be eligible for Income-Related ESA if you live alone and have no other income. DWP should send you the paperwork in good time but you can always ask for an ESA3 if you are anxious about it.
However, if you live with a partner their income, hours of work and savings would also be taken into account
12 Month Limit for ESA(CB)
Asset rule for ESA(IR)
24 hour work rule for ESA(IR)
Anyone who has been on IB before ESA will not be able to meet the NI contribution requirement to reclaim ESA or JSA. If this is your situation, I suggest that you have a look at the 'turn2us' website to see if there are any other benefits they can claim and/or get face-to-face advice from a welfare expert.

Thanks for the reply and the info. I shall wade through it. They don't make easy for us eh?
Do "assets" include mortgaged houses? Luckily I live with a working partner, I never would have got through it so far.

A House that is your main place of residence is not counted as an asset.
A second home would be.

Neither do I MHB, I was trying to work out whether there was a query, and whether you had responded to it or not.
Must be Forum gremlins.
