Hi

I had a standard letter from the DWP yesterday informing me that the rates for ESA have changed in April, in addition it mentioned something about a WFI for my husband after 26 week of me claiming ESA, I was unaware of this.

I am in the Support group for ESA and I receive HRM and LRC for DLA. We have not claimed for Carers Allowance. As my husband is also my carer will he have to attend and what happens during the WFI. Rather anxious about it now. Just when you think they are going to leave you alone for a bit, this. Thanks.

On the assumption that you are receiving ESA(IR) and that this is a joint claim with your husband, then I am afraid that he does have to attend this WFI, a failure to do so can lead to the sanctioning of your benefit payments.

Typically they will ask him about his job history and what assistance they can provide to enable him to get back into the work place. Assuming that it is the case, he should mention that he is providing substantial care for you, as this should defer any further appointments.
