You can just write and ask for a reconsideration. However, we tend to recommend that members go straight to appeal as this saves time in the long-run. There should be an appeal form, GL24, in with the decision letter and this must be submitted within 4 weeks of the date on the letter.

How long do I have to appeal?

How to submit an appeal

It would be helpful to request the paperwork associated with your claim, I don't know what there will be if you did not submit an ESA50 though. It is important to get your appeal submitted in time rather than waiting for this to arrive. You don't have to go into detail at this stage although the thrust of your appeal must be to show how you meet the Support Group descriptors

There are, theoretically, risks associated with appealing (or asking for reconsideration)

Is there any risk to challenging a decision?

You are still obliged to attend Work Focussed Interviews if requested to do so

Do I have to attend WFIs while I appeal?

I think if you re-read Mrs H's post you will see that she recommends an appeal.

One of the links she has posted has details for downloading a GL24.

Yes, an appeal will include a Reconsideration of your claim as standard, if the Decision is not revised then your papers will be submitted to the Tribunal Service automatically.

If you ask for a Reconsideration, you can still request an appeal if the Decision is not revised in your favour, but in the first instance, do one or the other, but not both,
