I have been awarded high rate DLA and low rate care indefinitely. I have been getting DLA for 9 years but just for 3 years each time. I am so pleased I have it and thank you for benefits and work. A little confused about it being indefinite as I thought it was changing to pip. Can anyone tell me what indefinite means for DLA please

Hi k,

Congratulations on the DLA awards.

Thanks for your comments.

Indefinite awards replaced the old "Life" awards.

It means that it is not for a finite period, such as 2 years, 3 years, etc, etc.

Before the pending changes to PIP an indefinite award would generally not be reviewed, unless there was a change in circumstances, or under :

The Right Payment Programme

Any current DLA recipients with indefinite awards should not be invited to claim PIP until after October 2015.

See : I currently get an indefinite award of disability living allowance (DLA). Will I be automatically entitled to personal independence payment (PIP)?

I currently get an indefinite award of disability living allowance (DLA). Is it true that people on the lower (lowest) rate of the care component of disability living allowance (DLA) will not get awarded personal independence payment (PIP)?

What is the timetable for introducing personal independence payment (PIP)?
