income-based ESA was created by Kristen Jones
Hello.
I'm so sorry if this has been asked before but i simply couldnt find an anwer in the forum.
My case is this- ive been transfered from IB to ESA and put in the WRAG group (to which i am appealing).
I have been put on Contributory ESA which i know runs out after a year. The letter i got said i could claim for income based ESA and from what ive looked up i am entitled too as i have zero savings and live with my father who is retired and on a combined state and company pension which does not add up to much. I have a 'partner' but do not live with him and we share no income, so not a partner in the official sense of the word.
Reading on the DWP site it states 'Contribution-based ESA lasts 1 year if you’re in the Work-Related Activity Group (you may be moved onto income-based ESA after this time).
But i dont want to risk not being moved onto it.
I'm utterly confused by all this especially in regards to appealing and such (hearing about benefits being stopped whilst appealing etc).
I'm just dont know where to go next...Because ive been put in the WRAG group, have i automatically been given only Contributory ESA as they think i'll suddenly be cured of my chronic pain condition after a year?

Everyone who was on IB is being transferred to contributary ESA. If you think that you will qualify for income-related ESA (and it sounds as if you might) you can ask DWP for form ESA3 on which you will have to document details of your financial affairs.
These FAQs will tell you about the time-limiting of contributary ESA and also the asset rule for income-related ESA
12 Month Limit for ESA(CB)
Asset rule for ESA(IR)
On another note, it looks as if your username might be your real name. if you wish to change it, in order to maintain some anonymity, you can do so by following the advice in this FAQ
My full name is showing, how can I stop it?
