Also, can you please tell me where (or if) I can check anywhere to see how the DLA DMs score things? Is there a points system like ESA?

Hi mg,
See this extract :
"Who is this guide for?
This guide is for you if you are already receiving Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and your existing award is due to expire before 24 February 2014."
From top of page 4 of the guide under the heading :
" The Best Possible Disability Living Allowance Renewal Claims For Adults On Mental Health Grounds New 11 June 2013"
On this page :
DLA Guides
From what I have gathered, your DLA Form is a "Renewal", and is due to expire before Feb 2014, so that is the one for you.
Unlike ESA, DLA assessments are not points based.
Care awards are dependent on whether care is "Reasonably Required" whether it is needed day and night, etc, etc.
Mobility awards are reliant on walking limitations only, unlike ESA which is "Mobilising" and includes the use of a manual wheelchair unaided.
Our guides should explain this for you.

mumsgirl wrote: I have now received my completed DLA reassessment form back from my GP (she filled in 'someone who knows you'). It's not 'up' until 8th Sept, and I know you can't really give a definitive answer as to when I should send the form in but do you think it's too early to send it in now? I know there could be 'cons' in sending it back now. Is there a sort of average time that people take in sending it back? And is there a sort of average time DLA take in getting back to you? Or is it "how long is a piece of string" kind-of thing. Any advice you could give would be appreciated, although I know it may not be possible, as it's entirely up to me.
I am sorry but there is no way that we can advise, they might make a Decision in two weeks or 3 months, it might be the same, so it does not matter, better or worse.
When should I send my renewal form back?

mumsgirl wrote: Ok thanks Gordon. If I were to post my form tomorrow and IF I got news in, say, 2 weeks that I was successful, when would the award start - would it be 2 weeks time or 8 Sept (when my current award runs out)?
The award should run from when a Decision is made, in practical terms if it remains unchanged it will probably be 8 September, if it changes then it will likely be from that date.
