Hi All,Have now had time to read the ATOS Outline(V.2 2011) of the Interview Procedure mentioned yesterday-though it only contains samples of screenshots(ie what the Doctor sees with tick boxes)but enough.First do you know if the full updated screenshot version of the ATOS Medical Online is available anywhere?
Secondly it appears to require The Medical Interviewer to fill in The Claimants weight, height and c.3 different situation blood pressure readings. Can I take it therefore that I will have to strip to my trousers, remove shoes and so on?I get White Coat BP fear and am reluctant to have BP readings taken even with own GP as a close relative had a disasterous experience after such prying on being put on disabling medication.
If I refuse to be poked about in such a way rather like a heifer in a cattle market-its the last straw!
will it predujice a claim that is not based on these elements?
The complicated language appears to offer an option to ignore these requirements if the Interviewer decides to?Is that correct?
Lastly if you use the one time re- arrangment of appointment what sort of time period would be the maximum allowable for a re booking of an ATOS Test?
All for now probably last questions before Medical soon.

I am not sure what you are referring to by the ATOS Outline(V.2 2011), but if it is related to the LiMa software used by ATOS during an assessment, then as far as I am aware, there is no documentation in the public domain that relates to the current, in use system. To be honest, even if there were it would be of little value as it will not include any of the programming logic than underlies the system.

With regard a physical examination, this is very rare and only likely to be done where it would be consistent with the claimants stated condition(s), so someone with high blood pressure might be tested at the assessment, someone with operation scarring might be asked to disrobe so that the assessor can see it.

You do need to be cautious in refusing any aspect of the assessment, as you could be seen as being un-cooperative, however, you should not feel pressured to do anything that will cause you significant discomfort or distress. If you do feel the need to refuse, explain your reasons and then refuse the request.

We recommend that you have someone with you at the examination, they can offer moral support, but also corroborate what went on during the assessment.

If you need to re-book then ATOS will look to arrange for new appointment to occur within three weeks of the cancelled one.

Hi James,
I had the verbal and physical exam a couple of weeks ago.
I have high blood pressure and arthritic problems so presumably they wanted to check that out. It took me 10 days to recover.
The verbal took nearly 1 hour the other about 30 minutes. I asked for a recording so that may have had some bearing on the time.
The assessor also got me to blow into the lung capacity tube. That made me dizzy.
It is difficult because you can't refuse anything but I did tell her when something hurt.
Sorry this is not much help but good luck with it.
(I still have not heard from them so could end up on jobseekers!)

On my ESA50 forms I always say that I will not allow a physical examination or use of certain equipment due to allergy issues unless I have written confirmation shown at the time that the equipment is safe to be used. I also make sure they have the medical evidence to back this up.

When I have been assessed in the past the ATOS doctor has said that they would not do any physical tests e.g. spirometry, blood pressure etc... So it is possible not to have them done..... ;)

I always make sure that I have an up to date copy of my medical notes with test results so they can see what my issues are so there is no need for them to do any tests as they have up to date information.

Hi James

When I did my ATOS assessment the assessor did ask my height, weight and took my BP and lung capacity test as I have asthma, she did not have a scale to take my weight and she didn't have a tape measure to take my height. That was it

She did ask to examine my back - as its the main problem area for me, which I agreed to but warned her to be extremely careful where I had surgery - she then declined to do the examination for fear of hurting me - so if there are any areas that would cause an immediate adverse reaction to your health you can clearly decline and state why your declining to any physical exam or have a caveat before the examination is done - BUT ensure that has B & W clearly suggests in their guide, take someone with you to take notes on what is being asked/said - I also recorded the whole intereview on my mobile - and got a copy of the medical report ATOS completed - because they may lie and say you refused a physical exam - without clearly stating your reasons - or in my case they did not put they are the ones that opted out of examining my back for fear of hurting me. - so get a copy of the report after to make sure what was said is what was recorded in the report - this will be the basis for any potential appeal later on.
