Some questions on the new ESA50 was created by Benson
Just got a few questions questions about the new ESA50 form.

1. I have downloaded the new one online and it crashes really often, yet when I open the 2012 one it is really smooth and crash free. Any idea why the 2013 version is so buggy ?

2. They seem to have shrunk the text boxes this year and I can't fit in much text. I have managed to squeeze text in but it looks a bit on the small side when printed. Just in case the DM can't read it, can I put a larger text version, with identical duplicated text, on the next page ? Or does it have to go at the very end ? Or is it even a silly idea for me to do that ? I just have no idea how good their eyesight will be. Because I am printing it out page by page I can put in additional pages wherever, if this is allowed.

3. What do they class as a medical report ? As it has a tick option at the end. Should I tick that for anything I include from scans or doctors ? Or is it only ticked for a specific type of report ?

4. On my last ESA85A it says the "previous report" was viewed to help make a decision. Do they mean the previous ESA85A to that ? Or does "report" mean something else ?

Thanks everyone !!

For many of my answers I simply typed "see page xx for reply and see page xx for medical evidence". I then wrote the full reply on separate extra sheets and attached them to the end of the ESA50 along with all my medical evidence

1. Other than checking that you are using the latest version of Acrobat Reader, the only thing you can do is complain to the DWP, it is their form :)

2. The text boxes are fixed in size, so as you add more text the font size is reduced to make it fit. I would advise putting either the extra text or indeed all of it on a separate page with a reference to it on the form, this can either be added as an extra page or put on the end of the form.

3. A medical report is something produced by your GP or a consultant that you see/have seen in connection with your condition(s). It may be something that has been written especially for this assessment on something that you have received in the past as part of your treatment.

4. It could be but you cannot rely on either ATOS or the DWP to access your previous assessment documents, so you need to complete the ESA50 in detail each time.

Thanks both for your answers.

@Froggylegs - How did you get on with your ESA50 result ?

@Gordon. - Thanks for that info. Just got another quick question.

Is "It Varies" always worse that picking an actual tick box for points ? If it is all scored on points then how does "It Varies" get translated in to points ? On one of the questions I have no idea whether to choose "Sometimes" or "It Varies". Both seem to mean the same thing, if something "varies" then surely it is "sometimes". I have always chosen "varies" for this particular question in the past and then written below my reason for this choice, but I suddenly wondered today if that is the right choice given my answer could suit either tick box.

Thanks.

The first thing to say is that you should not be constrained by the form, if you do not think that the tick boxes apply to your situation, do not use them, just mark the form "see below" and explain in the comment box.

In general "sometimes" means that some of the time you have a problem and some of the time you do not, "it varies" means that you always have the problem, but the degree to which it affects you changes.

Before considering which applies, you should first look at how your condition is for the majority of the time and then look at how you are further affected.

Thanks Gordon. Any idea though how the DM makes the points from "It Varies" answers, as they don't have set points put to them.

Also, does a DM know what group a claimant in currently in when marking renewal ESA50's ? Is this something that should be mentioned on the ESA50 if you are in a group you wish to remain in ? Or should it not be mentioned at all ?

Thanks again.
