It is entirely dependant on how you answer the question, so as a trivial example if you say;
For 20% of the time I can walk 100m but not more than 200m, for 55% of the time I can walk more than 50m but less than 100m and for 25% of the time I cannot walk more than 50m
then you would assessing your self as meeting the middle criteria, 50m-100m
Yes, the DM will know which group you are currently in, there is no harm in your stating which group you meet the criteria for, however, you should be aware that the ESA Descriptors and Regulations were updated in January, so depending on how you last qualified, you cannot assume that you will this time.

Thanks Gordon. Just one final question. Are the questions about as you are now, or how you feel you would be under a work environment ? For instance, on the "how often do you upset people" question, is it wrong to tick "every day" if you currently don't interact with people daily, but you pick that answer because you know you have the health issues that will cause daily upset if you were always around people ?

You will be assessed as you are at the time of the actual assessment, whether it be on paper only, or at a face to face, taking into account information within The ESA50 and any other evidence.
Just as you have done in your post, state it as it is. Give details of how your life is currently limited, and how it may be if you were placed in a work or WRA environment.

@Gordon. - Thanks for that info. Just got another quick question.
Is "It Varies" always worse that picking an actual tick box for points ? If it is all scored on points then how does "It Varies" get translated in to points ? On one of the questions I have no idea whether to choose "Sometimes" or "It Varies". Both seem to mean the same thing, if something "varies" then surely it is "sometimes". I have always chosen "varies" for this particular question in the past and then written below my reason for this choice, but I suddenly wondered today if that is the right choice given my answer could suit either tick box.
