Hi Matthew and welcome to the site. This should help you find your way round

Welcome to Benefits and Work

Any appeal should ideally be submitted within one month of receiving the decision letter. However, DWP seem to be accepting late appeals without argument at the moment, so you have 13 months to do it - although you would have to show 'good reason' for the lateness if you were outside the original month.

How long do I have to appeal?

How to submit an appeal

You should be aware that the decision can, potentially, be revised down rather than up (that is, you could be found 'fit for work' if your claim is not secure).

I am afraid that this system is particularly hard for people with dyslexia as there is lots of material to read.

Appeals FAQs

ESA claims and appeals

You are obliged to attend Work Focussed Interviews whilst awaiting appeal (this could easily take 12 months or more) if requested to do so. It is sometimes possible to have this carried out over the phone or eve, rarely, in the claimant's own home but this is entirely at the discretion of the JobCentre advisor

Do I have to attend WFIs while I appeal?

It is getting difficult to find help these days, you should look at this link and you could also try doing an internet search for 'welfare advice' and the name of your town

Where to get advice?

If you are on contributory ESA, this is limited to 365 days in the WRAG, after that you will be assessed to see if you are eligible for income-related ESA. There is no such time limit for people in the Support Group or on income-related ESA

No , maybe i didn't say it clearly. there are apparent guides on how to go appeal from being on esa wrag to support.

by the way i think its really daft not to allow comments on topics especially members own topics between certain times. ive had to wait nearly a day just to do this post

Based on our experience on this site and others, the Site Owner and the Moderators have agreed that we want to run the site as safely as possible for the members and to do this, we need to pre-moderate all posts before they are allowed into the forum.

At the moment we only have sufficient Moderators to cover the current opening times, all of whom are volunteers, have their own disabilities and caring responsibilities. We realise that this is not ideal, but it is important to remember that the forum is free service and not included in the membership fees, so the only way for us to expand the hours is for members to volunteer as Moderators.

Hi ml,

With respect to your other query, there is no specific guide on how to appeal a WRAG award to SG.

There is an ESA Appeals Guide, 3rd from bottom on this page :

ESA Claims Guides

You would have to show how and why you qualify for The SG, by fulfilling at least one of the SG Descriptors.

There are ESA Claims Guides on the above page, also.
