ESA : How long will I wait

Hi I am new to here!! I am receiving IB since 1995.I was telephoned in feb 12 with the message I would be sent this esa50. I heard nothing else but now 17mths later I have been sent a esa50 to fill in. It has to be back with them by 12th August. How long will it be before I get notification to attend a medical or been put in a group? Many thanks for you info.

Welcome to Benefits and Work

Once ATOS receive your ESA50 back, the length of time before you hear anything, is variable, so there is no standard here.

It would depend on how busy they are in your area, whether they contact your G.P., whether you have to have a face to face, or not, as they may decide that they can assess you on the paper evidence alone, that you have provided.

Whether ATOS assess you on paper alone, or as the result of a face to face, they only make recommendations, and return your file to The DWP.

It is then the DWP who make the decision, so again, it would depend how busy the DWP were.

You will continue to receive your current rate of benefit until The DWP DM has made a decision.
