New ESA50 01/13 help was created by CLINTIAN
Hi, My husband was awarded ESA in the Support group in September 2011 [Without medical] and received the new form to fill in by the end of this month.
My husbands condition is mostly in the mental part 2 Section.
he has OCD/Anxiety/depression.
I Have a few questions:-
1. After reading a few posts people mention ESA85A, As I Dont know the reason my husband was put into the support group will this info be vital/useful to me ? is it easy to get hold of and how do I Get this, I Did fill in original form using PDF so most original information is at hand along with support letters etc. and what I Am saying is everything went as smooth as could be and as my husbands condition has been unchanged for many years [And the long term] would probably use most of the original info.
2. The new form differs slightly, Can anyone point me in the right direction as regards mental problems mainly I Need to concentrate on this new form,
I Will post a few more questions as I Work my way into the new form,
Any help or advice appreciated
Thank you very much

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is
Welcome to Benefits and Work
The ESA85A is the ATOS medical report produced when their is no face to face assessment, you can request this from the DWP office that you normally deal with, but you should be aware that the DWP regularly destroy documents over 14 months old, so it may not be available.
Our ESA Claim guide, there is one specifically for Mental Health issues, are available on the following link.
www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/esa
The new ESA50 is also available for download.
Using The PDF Version Of The ESA50 Questionnaire

Thank you Gordon,
One or two more questions:-
[Mental health section ocd/anxiety/depression]
1. Should I Send in the instructions/side effects leaflets that you get inside the boxes of his medication so they can read this for themselves ?
2. Is it more important now to stress these side effects due to the new changes in force or have I misread these new changes,
any more help or what new paperwork/info due to the way claims are looked at welcome
thank you again

1. Yes it is worth sending the documentation on your medicines if you are suffering from the side effects of taking them, it confirms that they are reasonable and should be considered.
2. Yes it is probably more important than before, but be aware that one of the examples in the Decision Makers guidance, covers the effect of strong pain killers on the mental health of the claimant and the recommendation is not to award points.
It is very difficult to give generalised advice, you are best advised to read the guides, remember it is the Descriptor that you are being assessed against, not the question on the ESA50, and if you have a specific question to come back to the forum.
