Trick Phone Call from DWP

My GP told me today that he had a patient with mental health problems that received a phone call from the DWP saying they were just making a routine call. He wasn't due for reassessment and they just asked him a few questions, nothing heavy. But he received a letter a week later saying after the recent interview by phone they found him fit for work and stopped his benefit!
I am sure it was sorted out But my GP warned me not to take any calls from the DWP

Hi C,
You are correct, you do not have to take any phone calls from The DWP or ATOS.
However, a claimant cannot be found fit for work unless they have first had a face to face assessment.
Further, an ESA WCA cannot be carried out over the phone.
A claimant can be placed into The WRAG or The SG using the ESA 50 and any paper evidence, this is known as "paper scrutiny".

The GP was expressing his anger at what had happened and told me it was an illegal action.
As ever, you have put peoples minds at rest with the correct procedure and we all thank you for doing so

You are welcome C,
You were simply relating a story that you were told by your G.P., so don't worry.
