Atos Assessment
Hello I can vaguely remember reading something somewhere; that anyone who has cancer should be seen by a BMC registered doctor at his or her assessment.
Would anyone be kind enough to confirm if this is correct or not please?
Thank you.

There is a DWP/ATOS document that for specific illnesses and disabilities recommends that a doctor is used for the assessment, but it is not required and the claimant has no immediate recourse if a doctor is not used.
That said, a recent Upper Tribunal Decision, which stated that it was inappropriate for ATOS to use a Physiotherapist to conduct an assessment where the primary problems were Mental Health ones, could be used by a claimant if they wished to challenge a Decision under the above circumstances.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi C030,
Just to add,
Any claimant that is suffering from Cancer, should have page 20 of The ESA50 filled in by their G.P. or treating HCP. (once they receive the ESA50)
Extract Page 20 :
"Cancer treatment – for completion by a healthcare professional.
The information you provide on this page is important as it will help the Department for Work and Pensions to make a rapid benefit decision for your patient. This page concerns patients who are having, waiting for or recovering from (post completion of treatment) chemotherapy or radiotherapy."
Which can be seen on page 20 of The Pdf ESA50 which is downloadable from the link on this page :
