Good afternoon everyone, Could someone help me with the following please? Im on ESA until April next year, then that stops. At the moment i get the lower rate of the care component & the higher rate of the mobility component. Ive been in work now about 3 months doing 10 hours a week at the minimum rate, this after i was put in the work related group. Ive split from my wife & will be looking for my own place over the next few months. finances is a huge worrying point for me. I was wondering how this will effect my benefits etc in the future. Thank you all in advance.

Hi David,

Is your ESA due to stop next year due to the time-limiting of contributory WRAG? Or do you mean that you are due to be reassessed at that time?

If you are due to lose ESA payment due to time-limiting, is it likely that you would qualify for income-related ESA when you are living alone?

Are DWP aware of your 10 hours work, have they confirmed that they class it as 'permitted work'?

Thank you for your quick reply. Yes i lose my ESA due to time limits & yes the DWP know about my hours of work. i started off on 6 hours, now i do up to 10 hours. I had my 3 monthly last week with the DWP. Thank you once again. You have been most helpful.

As I said, it might be that you are eligible for income-related ESA when you are on your own. This will depend on your income and assets. If not, payment will cease and NI credits will be given. You will be subject to periodic reassessments and payment will recommence if you are put into the Support Group in the future.

I'm afraid that we do not give advice on other benefits. As a start you could have a look at the 'turn 2 us' website but you would do well to get specialist advice to see if you are entitled to anything else.
