ESA50: Combining physical and mental questions? was created by kontext
Hi, looked at guides, but still confused , do the (brutal) changes in January for the ESA50 mean that you now can't combine physical and mental to gain more points.

Hi k,
I assume that you are referring to the fact that it is now the case that you cannot fulfill or score any points under the Mental Health section (descriptors) if your limitations are as the result of a Physical Medical condition, and vice-versa.
We still advise that you should fill in the ESA50 with regards to the limitations that you suffer personally.
It would then be up to The DWP DM, (who is not medically qualified) to sort the wheat from the chaff.
If you do provide information that is personal to your own limitations, it may well be taken into account. The worse that can happen is that you don't score any points or qualify under the relevant descriptors.
If you don't provide information relevant to you personally, then it cannot possibly be taken into account.
So you have nothing to lose, and possibly all to gain.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

If you have both physical and mental problems then you should record them all, you can certainly score points in both sections.

As Mrs H says, you can score in both sections, I got 15 in physical, staying conscious and 18 in mental (3 x 6), so yes you can.
