Does anyone have scoliosis and appealing for decision? I've to look after my daughter and I'm pregnant and really worried now about appeal. Any advice?

Hi Tessybel,

As it looks as if you are new to the site, this FAQ might help you to find where things are

Welcome to Benefits and Work

I don't remember, off hand, whether we have any members who have specifically mentioned scoliosis. I am sure you know that ESa is not awarded due to your condition but because of the limitations associated with it.

How far through the appeal process are you? Do you have a date yet?

Congratulations for the pregnancy, BTW! :)

Are you clear in your mind regarding which descriptors you meet? Are you appealing against a 'Fit for work' decision, or are you appealing for the Support Group from WRAG?

They gave me 0 points after a medical last year. So I think I'm appealing that decision. Haven't had much help with it tried CAB but still can't get to see the right person. I was probably quite stupid at the medical and did things which I later suffered for. Do all supporting letters need to be from a medical person? I used to go to a women's center just for a bit of support, one of the girls who works there said she would write a letter of support. Should also be able to get one from my doctor. Just need to know the correct things to bring and my doctor wants to know what she should write in the letter ( what she should include). Thanks again

You need to decide which of the, very specific, descriptors you meet and provide evidence to back this up. You can include letters from friends, relatives, carers etc. They should state in what context they know you, how long they spend with you and what makes them believe that you experience particular problems.

Qualifying for the WRAG

You need to gain at least 15 points, across all the descriptors, to qualify for WRAG. Access to the Support Group does not depend on numerical score but on which Support Group descriptors are satisfied.
