Can Claimants Claim Income Support During MR?

MR = during 'Mandatory Reconsideration' but no room to put in in subject line.
It's just that someone shared some information on Facebook the other day suggesting that Income Support still exists and wondering whether this is an option for people who have no other income and therefore forced to claim JSA while waiting for a mandatory reconsdieration with all the problems and repercussions that entails.
Many thanks

Yes, you can claim Income Support while waiting for a MR to complete, but you can only do so if you meet the eligibility criteria, so you need to be
- between 16 and Pension Credit qualifying age
- pregnant, or a carer, or a lone parent with a child under 5 or, in some cases, unable to work because you’re sick or disabled
- you have no income or a low income
- working less than 16 hours a week (and your partner works no more than 24 hours a week)
- living in England, Scotland and Wales - there are different rules for Northern Ireland

Asbo wrote: Many thanks, Gordon. So for anyone who is sick and disabled even though they've been found fit for work can apply while waiting or will they be told 'oh you were found fir for work and therefore you don't qualify'. It's not happened to me fortunatelty yet but is happening to so many online friends and acquaintances.
The Gov UK page is slightly misleading as you cannot make a new claim for IS due to sick or disability.
