Work Related Activity ? was created by Richard
Hi

I'm writing on behalf of my partner, last year she was placed in the WRAG group, and went to the local Job Centre for a couple of interviews, and was then moved on to, Presumably, Work Related things with a local Group.

Initially when she went to this group, she told the advisor all about her Depression/ Anxiety difficulties, and the physical problems she has, and was told she would go into a group of similar people.

Since then all she has had is a monthly interview with a lady/ advisor at this place for about 10 minutes, and she says all it seems to be is a kind of "How have you been ?" sort of thing, No Group or anything, and she doesn't really see the point of it, and plus it causes her problems with having to travel to this place once a month, as she doesn't really like going out much.

Anyway, she has just received another ESA50 to fill out, but nothing has really changed, since she has had these difficulties since 1994, and to be honest really should be i the Support Group.

My question is, will the DWP view these, "Interviews", where the Advisor doesn't even make any notes, and it's basically the same conversation every time, as evidence that my partner is capable of work ?, as I really don't see that she has been helped in any positive way at all, and to call what she has been doing "Work Related Activity" is a bit far fetched in anyone's book.

ESA does not test a claimants ability to work, this is rather a conclusion of the assessment, so nothing that your wife has been asked to do can lead directly to a Fit for Work Decision, however, her regular attendance at these interviews can and will be considered as part of the assessment.

So as some examples;

- if she has mobilising problems she will need to consider explaining how she gets to these appointments.
- If she has Social Anxiety, how she manages to go to an unfamiliar place and meet someone who is not family.

There are more, so she should look at each question to see how her attending these meetings might affect her answers.

Thank you for the reply Gordon.

Would it be worth explaining on the form that every time she has to go for one of these, she's like a cat on a hot tin roof for a couple of days beforehand, and really quite strung out ?, as she hates having to go, although just about manages to hold it together, and that I normally go with her and drop her off.

It is most certainly something to include and obviously any after effects that the meetings have on her, also, do not be afraid to repeat the same content across more than one question if it is relevant.
