Hi,
Today i received a letter from DWP informing me that my PIP was terminated a week ago.
I had the face to face assessment in Oct.
I was receiving the enhanced rate for both daily living and mobility . I suffer with Fibromyalgia, joint pain, constant tiredness as well as severe depression, anxiety, panic attacks, personality disorder.
Accordjng to the decision maker on the day i saw Capita i 'appeared stable in mood and was not anxious" and because i am able to attend my Gps and MHCC alone there is no evidence of overwhelming psychological distress.
I was only able to attend the appt because i had my friend with me, prior to leaving the house i was sick with nerves and when we arrived it was a good 10 minutes before i felt under control enough to leave the car.
I explained to the assessor how stressed i got over important things such as this appointment, my friend also backed this up.
Apparently i can also stand and walk 200mtrs with no problem. In the appt i had sat for 20 mins plus and when i had to stand i was that stiff and unsteady the assessor was concerned that i would fall!
Apparently i also explained how i could walk for 10 mins without stopping! If i tried to walk for that length of time without stopping i would need days to recover, i usually have to stop every few minutes because of the pain. Just walking to the front door causes pain and my house is most definitely not 200 mtrs nor does it take 10 mins to walk the length of it.
I have been in the MH system for over 14 years but have suffered with depression since my early teens. I went through years of councelling where it came out that i dissociated when under stress.
I rarely leave the house alone and have just 3 good friends, with just the 1 who is around most of the time. She and i recently went to a DIY store and after losing sight of her i had a severe panic attack. She goes shopping with me, makes sure i eat a hot meal, take my meds, and even stays round here so i can feel safe to have a shower.
I did the online self assessment for PIP and even without going to the extreme i scored 18 on each section.
I am so upset over this decision as it makes me feel as though they think i am lying about how things are, how bad the pain is, and how messed up my head feels at times.
Is this common? The negative response from DWP?

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

I'm afraid this result is not that unusual, see the following

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/news/3852-1-in...tire-award-on-review

The first stage to challenging a Decision is for you to request a Mandatory Reconsideration, this needs to be done in writing to the DWP, within one month of the Decision, to the office that dealt with your claim, have a look at our PIP MR & Appeal guide for details of the process, the PIP area also has template letters that you can use to make the request with.

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip

You should contact the DWP for a copy of the assessment report if you have not already done so, I would phone them but again follow up the request in writing. Once you have the assessment report you will have a better understanding of how the DWP Decision Maker has come to their conclusions and will then be able to argue against them.

Your primary task is to show that you meet the criteria, there are many reasons you may have failed, you need to address each of these but don't get bogged down in criticising the assessment report unless you can clearly show that it is incorrect, it is a lot easier to argue the facts of the situation;

"the assessor recorded that I walked 50m, I did but they have failed to document that I had to stop every 10m for a rest due to breathlessness"

than their opinions

"based on my observations of the claimant walking I believe that they can reliably walk more than 200m.

When you have a better idea of the issues with your claim, come back to the forum and we will do our best to help.
