The Commons Work and Pensions committee has written to Stephen Timms asking to be told:

  • What the arrangements are for the co-production of the Timms review?
  • How will the Timms review interface with the Disability Advisory Group?
  • Who will be involved in the Timms review and will they influence its terms of reference?
  • Are there going to be cuts to the overall PIP budget as a result of the review?
  • Even if there aren’t cuts to the overall PIP budget, will it result in cuts to some disabled people’s PIP.
  • When will regulations for the new Right To Try Guarantee be laid?

The committee have asked for a response by 17 September.

Here at Benefits and Work, we strongly suspect that the response from Timms will be late, dismissive and will contain almost no concrete information at all.

This is particularly the case as we strongly suspect that Timms doesn’t know the answers to half of these questions himself.

You can download a copy of the letter from this page.

Simply put...Write to your MP... Every day for a week... Demanding answers to your questions, citing the "worry and stress" being caused, and the Ridiculous lack of information on offer...
We need to step up, and use their own system to improve our lot!
An email every day for a week from all the readers/members herein will cause a stir, and questions will be asked... Simple enough, costs nothing, and gives politicians an uncomfortable time 💪😁
Do it today, and keep it up...

    From disability rebellion on twitter:

Disability Rebellion attended a virtual meeting with Stephen Timms and other DPOs today around the upcoming Timms Review and the Disability Advisory Panel, here’s what we learned:

    Timms Review

    * Looking at possibilities of outside body (not necessarily a DPO) to help set up the committee, elect co-chairs and rewrite the terms of reference
    * Expression of interest to be a member of the committee will be going out shortly
    * Hope is to have the committee up and running by October or early November at the latest.

    Disability Advisory Panel

    * No expectation to sign the NDA, but not signing will mean not being able to attend ‘closed doors meetings’
    * Not all meetings will come under the NDA and the discussions at those meetings will be able to be shared outside of the meeting
    * DPOs suggested a code of conduct with mention of confidentiality needed around certain discussions instead of an NDA.
    * Payment - for those sitting on the panel who also claim benefits such as UC, they will have to declare any payment as earnings which will then be deducted from their benefits payments.

It’s been a crazy day and that’s all I can remember at the moment, but if I remember anything else I will update you all.

Apologies if some parts of this post don’t make sense, it’s been a mad day and my brain is frazzled.

@D What a load of BS so much for co production. This government will try to use the review as a trojan horse to try and make back door cuts to PIP. WE need to campaign against this in our respective organisations.

    There’s a question missing ie
When do you intend to scrap PIP
And what will it be replaced with .
That will be the plan for sure

It's good to know that the work and pensions committee are on the case of Stephen Timms and his shambles of his 'co production' PIP review. Debbie Abrahams won't leave any stone unturned.

Another prime example that democracy is an illusion.

All politicians are career politicians, all seeking their own goals to curry favour with whom ever is in power and the “party”

@Kevin Newell Couldn’t agree more.  My own MP, Helen Hayes, is a classic example.  Voted against the bill and made every knew she was doing so right up until the last vote when she voted for it, thereby avoiding any negative consequence to her career from voting against the govt.  She was on The Week in Westminster on Sunday telling Ben Wright that govt’s main failing was that it hadn’t explained what it is doing in a way the electorate could understand.  So if you think the bill is wrong, it’s just because you’re thick.  Not sure what the various disability charities or her colleagues who voted against will make of that!

She then said she had been one of the bill rebels, when she — in fact — ultimately voted for the bill. So clearly to trying to curry favour with voters while also still voting with the govt.  Or perhaps that’s just one of those things she mentioned that I, with my Cambridge degree and previous career writing for the Fabian Society, Disability Now and the Guardian among others, just don’t understand.

Surely he should be held accountable especially if he misleads or out right lies to the committee and he should be made to tell the committee who the people and organisations are,  surely they can trust the committee. it's not on if the whole lot have a card to play with contracts jobs or employers who put the rules in to practice( to suit themselves) is totally out of order and the voting public should have it checked, as timms has lied and totally mislead even in parliament, the ministerial code is not worth the paper it's written on as the loophole's the mps use are ridiculous. all over these reviews and still don't tell the truth or even put the advise on to use and continue  on as they please. it's stick box same as usual, this should be stopped
