The government have introduced a service which, amongst other things, allows you to check the rate and length of your benefits award and download proof of entitlement.  It is particularly useful at the moment for claimants who want to check their personal independence payment (PIP) award to see if they have been given an extension.

You can get proof for:

  • Attendance Allowance
  • Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for adults
  • Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) - all types
  • Income Support
  • Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) - all types
  • Pension Credit
  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • State Pension

The service doesn’t cover universal credit.

And you can’t use the service if you are an appointee.

Once you’ve registered, you can get the information straight away and download the letter to your device or you can ask for it to be posted to you, but this will take about a week.

To use the service go to the Get proof of your benefits and State Pension page on the gov.uk site.

You’ll then be taken to a page where you can either sign in with your gov.uk One Login if you already have an account or create one if you don’t.

There are various ways to create a account.  The simplest is probably to use a valid photo id such as a passport or driving licence and a smartphone.

But if you don’t have those, you may still be able to register using a bank or building society account details and your national insurance number.

Once you have registered and logged in you’ll be able to check your benefits.

But for those of you checking if your PIP award has been extended, please be aware that this is a process that could go on for some weeks at least.  So, just because it hasn’t been extended yet doesn’t mean it definitely won’t be.

We'll provide more information as soon as we have it. To make sure you know what is happening, sign up for our free, fortnightly newsletter.

Many thanks to site member Healthyme for alerting us to this service.

I was originally awarded standard daily living PIP in September 2022. This was rewarded last August for three years, until August 2028. I'm 30 years old. It hasn't been extended yet. Does this mean it definitely won't be?

What evidence are you basing the claim this could take weeks?

I hope it's correct, but I've not seen anything but hearsay regarding this.

As I mentioned before, in February of this year (2026) I finished my PIP re-assessment and got my award letter, I was awarded PIP until February 2030. I checked my GOV one account today and I haven't had an extension added to my award. My award end date is still Feb 2030.. So sick and tired of these constant assessments for something that has been a lifelong issue and will never improve.

I wonder why you can't check your review date for WCA, if you are on UC, on this site?

As it stands you have to send a message in your journal to your Case Manager stating:

Could you please tell me the recommended review date set for my LCW/LCWRA status?

Wouldn't this be something that could be done successfully by A. I.?

After all, they are always banging  on about the cost of the welfare Bill.

I found that despite having a passport it wouldn’t accept it. I had to go to a post office which was pretty straightforward to prove my identity. Apparently if you have a smartphone it is much easier. Mine is a bog standard phone. You’ll get a letter either in post or online or both. Show this at the post office (not all post offices offer the service) they will scan it, check the ID such as passport that you have to take with you and they will take you somewhere in the shop have you stand up against a wall (!!!)……. and take your photo.

Worth mentioning if you already have an HMRC account where you can see your pension details you won’t see them on the One account until presumably the HMRC pension account is closed down.

Breathing a sigh of relief mine has been extended until November 2030.
