A petition in support of DLA and AA on the No 10 website needs your support.

The petition was submitted  on 7 September by Peter hand of Mencap.  But, according to a post on the Mind Blog (Protect benefits for disabled people), it was actually drafted by the Disability Charities Consortium.  This is a coalition of charities which includes RNIB, RNID, Mencap, Mind, RADAR, Scope and Leonard Cheshire Disability.

Unfortunately, whilst the charities were quick to launch the petition they don’t seem to have been so quick to give it the kind of publicity it needs to succeed.  By the afternoon of Friday 25 September it had attracted just 3,728 signatures.  However, as a result of an email sent out to campaigners by Benefits and Work that same afternoon the number of signatures has now leapt to almost 10,000.

It’s still nowhere near enough to send a powerful message to government, however,  So please sign and encourage others to do so too.  You might also want to ask any disability charity with which you have a comnnection to sign the petition too.

The petition can be found at:  https://petitions.number10.gov.uk/AttendanceA/
