American based multinational Unum is running a publicity campaign to tell people how hard it would be to survive on employment and support allowance.

Unum staff were heavily involved in developing both the personal capability assessment for incapacity benefit and the work capability assessment for employment and support allowance (ESA). Many people will be surprised to learn that a company that seeks to profit from telling people how poor state provision is was allowed to influence benefits policy in the first place.

Unum are seeking to persuade the public that ESA payments are too low for the average family to be able to survive on. A current campaign involves six bloggers all trying to live on ESA level income of £95 for a week.
