blue badge whilst waiting for pip was created by keanda
Hi
I sent my pip claim off in March, I have a blue badge at the moment which runs out at the end of May when my DLA is due to expire (I believe from posts I have read that the dla will continue until they make a decision on the pip.) I phoned the council to get information on getting a new badge and they say I have to complete the form, because the dla is going to expire and it could take months before I get an assessment and pip decision. The council have told me that l most probably need to for a medical assessment is this the correct information I have been given
Thanks

I suspect that this another benefit Catch 22.

Your automatic entitlement to a Blue Badge is dependant on the end date of your DLA, so unless the DWP are prepared to issue a new entitlement letter with a revised date, which I doubt that that they would do as they have no idea when a Decision will be made, then the council are within there rights to require you to go through an assessment for a new badge.

Even if the DWP did issue a letter then it would likely on be for a few months and I doubt that your Local Authority would be willing to issue a new badge under these circumstances.

All I can suggest is to hang off making a new claim for a BB until you have to.

Hope this might be helpful but I applied for a BB, I don't HRM, sent in my information from my consultant etc, and received my BB back within a week and didn't have to have an assessment, so I would say send in as much information if you need to reapply before you get your PIP results.

I'm a bit confused by this issue.....

I have a blue badge even though I have never applied for or been awarded PIP before. Can you not just apply to your council or local authority for a blue badge whether you have DLA/PIP or not??

My husbands DLA and BB are due to expire at the end of June2014. He was invited to claim PIP in Feb and so we followed instructions and subsequently have submitted the PIP2 forms. We have heard nothing since which was expected. We were concerned about the BB expiring so I rang the issuing authority. I told them his badge would expire next month but a decision hadn't been made for his PIP application. I was advised to fill in a renewal application on line, to tick the box that he is currently receiving his DLA. There is an opportunity later in the process for you to say when the DLA expires. I also ticked the box which asked if I agreed to having them check my address details with the local authority and details with any other department they felt necessary ( I presume by this they mean DWP) I agreed . Now they ask you to upload a digital photograph, I had difficulty with this so I left it and applied without.
I received an automated response with a reference number so I could track progress. The email also mentioned I needed to send evidence of address, DLA, and photograph. As this was an automated response, and I had ticked the box to allow them to check the personal details I ignored it.
2days later I decided I would upload the photograph on a separate email to them, told them it was a true likeness and could be checked with the photo they had on file. I also reiterated that I was giving them to check my details with any relevant bodies they needed to.
The following day a received an email asking me to contact them with my payment details. I rang immediately, they took the payment and when I asked how long the badge would be valid , she checked and said 3years. I was delighted.
I hope this all helps with your query.
Regards

Hi KB,

I'll try to 'un-confuse' the issue. Claimants in receipt of DLA HRM or enhanced PIP mobility component automatically qualify for a Blue Badge.

However, it's not necessary to be on DLA pr PIP to qualify for a badge. See Apply for or renew a Blue Badge

Best regards.

Jim
