PIP Medical coming up. Need advice. was created by jpg2502
Hello, i have my PIP medical next week and am getting a bit worked up about it.
The Doctor today is sending back the forms he received asking for extra information, does this go towards the result ?

Also i am struggling to fine the link to the PIP guide on this site.

To the medical centre itself, i shall be escorted there, however i will be going into the room for the actual medical alone, as i feel i will be able to explain myself more and not get put off.
Will this go against me ?
Its for mental health and i am abit confused as to how to answer the questions, is it on my 'worst day?' scenario basis.
I am also worried about how i will be in the medical itself, i can be prone to anxiety attacks under pressure without any warning. will they stop the medical if this happens ?

Hi j,

Yes, "all" evidence should be taken into account when The DWP come to a decision.

PIP Claims Guide. (2nd Link down the page)

PIP Self Test

You can read what to expect from around Page 70 of our PIP Claims Guide.

You should be aware that how you manage the return trip to/from the Assessment Centre will be taken into account as part of the actual assessment.

You may be observed on approaching, leaving and whilst inside the centre.

Assumptions may be made by the assessor with regards to the above, if there are any contradictions to your stated limitations.

These assumptions could result in the assessor writing comments/recommendations within the PA4 PIP Medical Report which they compile and send to The DWP.

The Assessor should be used to dealing with claimants with similar problems to your own, and should make allowances.

Good luck and please return to let us know how you got on !! :)

I had the Medical today. The woman was very nice, however the medical Itself was a nightmare and i think i have royally buggered it up, probably a mistake going in alone
i was getting extremely confused about what was being asked, and not much of it seemed to correlate with the pip 'self test', as in the questions werent as clear cut as in the self-test, so i have no idea how many points would be awarded and she asked them in very odd ways.
the only one which i was certain about and made my point about is the cooking/preparing food, which i CANNOT do at all, as mentioned before due to nausea and vomiting. She seemed to take it on board, however she made a point about asking if i was able to cook using my arms :S as in clarifying i was not physically disabled... surely it made no different if i was physically disabled as its the mental health issue which is stopping me from carrying out the task, so would the ''points'' not still be the same ?

i ended up having to run to the toilet halfway through the exam which caused abit of a scene, luckily i wasnt sick and it was just acid which came up.

i was a quivering wreck throughout and feel theres no way i got the points across properly, thus probably not standing a cat in hells chance of being awarded anything.

she was banging away on the keyboard though like nobodies business.

also i was very confused at the end of the examination she did some sort of 'memory test', i was abit embaressed as i failed it  but i was so exhausted and confused by the end of examination i couldnt think straight. im not sure what this 'memory test', was all about or what it relates to ?

Most of the questions at a PIP assessment seem to be unrelated to the actual PIP Descriptors, the idea is that the assessor is able to imply your limitations by asking related questions rather than specific ones.

The memory test is usual for someone with mental health issues, failing it is good :)

It usually takes a couple of weeks for the DWP to make a Decision.

If you feel up to it, let us know how you get on.

i have had sleepless nights since this medical, i am starting to wonder whether it was worth all the stress :(

i am just wondering if theres anyway someone can shed light the issue of 'cooking/preparation of food', concerning the possible points awarded. i cant quite make out which one would apply to me, as i said, i cannot be around the preparation of food, i did make that point to the ATOS lady, would she have understood it and been able to relay it in her report? and what would be the likely points awarded.

The Preparing Food activity takes into account both physical and mental health issues that would limit or prevent a claimant preparing and cooking a simple meal, so I can't see any reason why you should not score points for this activity, from you post, you seen to be assessing yourself as scoring 8 points, however, I am afraid you will have to wait until you have a Decision on your claim to see what points the assessor and Decision Maker gave you.
