Unless this might be dated to only coincide form when my PIP was awarded.

It should be backdated to the earliest date that you were receiving both ESA and PIP, even if this was when you were on the ESA Assessment rate.

The DWP often forget that Premiums are payable while claimants are still on the Assessment rate and we have had several members who were initially told that it only applied from when they were on the full rate of ESA, on chasing further backdating was made,

Ah just to understand I have been on ESA assessment for maybe a year longer than PIP, which I have been on for a few months, should it be backdated to the first ESA or is it just when first on both together?

Hi Sb,

If you were entitled to payment of : ESA Premiums such as The Enhanced Disability Premium (EDP) and/or The Severe Disability Premium (SDP) as you are were in receipt of a Standard or Enhanced PIP DL Award and fulfil the other qualifying criteria.

You will obviously only be entitled to back payment of any ESA Premiums from the date of The PIP Daily Living Awards, even if you were in receipt of ESA before that date.

The PIP Daily Living Award is the "qualifying benefit" for payment of The EDP and/or The SDP as ESA Premium top-ups !!

I called dwp and they said my backdated top up paid from late October only was correct, was on esa assessment until Aug when assessment first stag failed, mandatory reconsideration from 10 Sep my appeal was lodged 10 Oct and the backdated payment is from 27 Oct, as they said is based on esa at appeal rate, however I was awarded PIP in early June when also on ESA assessment, original assesment failed by notice dated late August, two to three weeks between that and mandatory reassessment lodged, and same gap to appeal lodged late Sept, should these periods not be covered?, at least the period June to August when on assessment and PIP I don't really feel able to argue it with them.
