Hi Gordon
Am I correct in thinking that if you have over £6000 in savings you can't qualify for SDP,even if you are in the CB support group?

Thanks C30 :)

Hi C030,

As all 4 available : ESA Premiums including The Enhanced Disability Premium (EDP) for being in The SG are paid as Income Related (IR) ESA, even if you fulfil the other qualifying criteria for payment of any ESA Premiums, you would also have to pass the IR ESA means test with respect to capital, assets, savings, household income and any hours worked by a partner if you have one.

Asset rule for receipt of IR ESA

24 hour work rule for payment of IR ESA

Any capital, assets or savings below £6,000 will be disregarded, but if you have £16,000 or more that will totally preclude you from payments of any IR ESA.

For any amount in excess of £6,000 but below the £16,000 you will have £1 deducted for every £250 in excess of the £6,000 from your maximum IR ESA entitlement.

e.g. Having £7000 would mean that you would have £4/Week (£1000 excess divided by £250 = 4 x £1 = £4) deducted from your maximum IR ESA entitlement.

Hi bro58
Many thanks for this info I will pass it on. :cheer:
A close friend has recently received the form,ESA3 even though she is in the CB based spport group.
She has chosen not to return it due to having too much in savings to qualify, and her husband is working above the hrs limit.

Am I correct in thinking that this form ESA3 should only be returned if you have a change in circumstances,or you wish to claim IR benefits,or is it mandatory to return it.
Regards
CD30

Technically you are correct, but having requested the information the DWP may expect it to be returned and can suspend payment until it is, although I think this is unlikely to happen.

If you do not want to return the form then I would write to them explaining that your husband works more than 24 hours a week, you can also mention the savings but your husbands hours are enough in their own right to prevent any ESA(IR) being paid.

Hi I was awarded the premium, however it is backdated to only October 2016 when I have been on assessment for a year - with the few weeks jsa mandatory reassessment wait at one point, is this right, should it not be backdated for the whole period of about one year? Unless this might be dated to only coincide form when my PIP was awarded.
