As ihave been her husband and carer for the last 26 years. will it affect my wifes chances not being there she is just not up to it at the moment.has anybody else on here never had a face to face assessment we just had a phone call saying do you have your condition for 4 to 5 days a week and that was it we automatically thought nothing would change get enhanced care and low rate mobility how wrong were we.

You can accompny your wife and speak when invited by them or your wife on her behalf.

If she does not go you can't go instead. You could ask for a home assessment. You should get a GP letter to support the request. People who elect for a paper assessment only have less chance of the award they deserve as the panel cannot ask questions or clarify any information they need to augment the written evidence.

They can pretty much do as they please.

Its not often that they do a paperwork only assessment. It may mean they thought you had provided a claim with all relevant info. You need to look at the full decision report, see where she got points and where you think they made mistakes and awarded less than you think she should have got and provide evidence to support your position.
They will expect your wife to engage as best she can, you need to give her a moment to respond rather than jumping straight in. However don't be afraid of gently interupting if you think she is struggling and helping her. If there is time before the hearing and you haven't already you might like to consider making a statement yourself on how her condition(s) affect her and all you do on a day to day basis. This would strengthen your right to help with the panel at the hearing as you can refer to your statement.

Ring them and change the appointment to a home assessment.
You will need a letter from your GP supporting the reason(s) for a home assessment.
