Thought this Maybe Useful to People :

YOU CAN FIND OUT IF THE ASSESSOR has qualifications from NURSING AND MIDWIFERY COUNCIL.

If your Assessor was a Nurse RGN male or female always written on the Assessors report (which you can obtain from DWP) or if you have not had assessment, take their full name and surname or write it down after they show you their RGN identity badge.

I went to the website and was able to find my Nurse as i had his Name and it came up. It showed he had no further qualifications and did not mention a study level.

Nowadays the standard qualification required to register as a Nurse with the NMC is a first Degree either a BSc Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing (both may have a specialization such as RMN for Reg. Mental Nurse or RNLD for Learning Disability Nurse.) Studied at University with practical placements.

Some more experienced Nurses may have qualified when Qualification/Registration was Hospital Based
.
Some Nurses have post Qualification/Registration qualifications such as drugs prescribing or Community Nursing or Midwifery these will be show on their NMC register entry.

It is interesting The DWP qualification for Disability Assessment does not appear to be recognised by the NMC, although it may qualify for Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Hi,

me again. :S

I used to be qualified nurse. RGN qualification reflects a nurse who trained many years ago (registered general nurse). Since then, nurses are RN (registered nurse)....followed by the branch they specialised in. For example, I was R.N adult.

The majority of diploma trained nurses (myself) went onto complete further study resulting in qualifications that wont show up on the NMC register. It only shows professionally accredited qualifications. So, If I was still on the register it would have just shown me as Ms XXXX XXXXXX RN adult.

If you want my full list of qualifications its
RN adult
......plus.....

P.G cert. Care management (masters level)
BSc (Hons) health and social care 2:1 :woohoo:
DIP h.e
DIP h.s.c
CERT health studies

...and a few more ;)

Allthough adult trained, I have extensive experience/qualfications when it comes to mental health and dementia. You wouldn't know that from the register. Its impossible to say what an R.G.N has with regards to their CURRENT level of tudy/experience/knowledge/skills. A R.N nurse trained from project 2000 onwards would be a minimum of diploma trained. They may also be degree or masters level at the point of training.

Capita and Atos argue that their health care professionals go through training and assessment in disability analysis before they are allowed to work independently. You wont have an argument that your assessor is "only" a nurse/paramedic/physio etc and not qualified to do your assessement due to them not being say a mental health specialist.......because they have passed this training.

If someone believes the assessor has disregarded or misunderstood their limitations............, a better approach would be to demonstrate how your assessment process failed to uncover your limitations. ie what the assessor did not ask, did not test. Focus only on proving you deserve points with explanation and evidence. Any other focus is a waste of your precious time and energy.
