Hi Gordon,
I received my decision letter a couple of days ago and was pleasantly surprised to actually get awarded anything after reading other peoples scare stories, but am now left in a dilema as I didn't get the points awarded that I had hoped for.I got 8 points for daily living & 8 points for mobiilty which obviously is a good result. I still feel that I should have got more points in certain parts of it,some of which I thought were pretty much guaranteed points ,such as using a dosette box for medication, where I got 0 points .I know that was only worth 1 point ,but every point counts.Needs assistance to be able to get in and out of the bath or shower.I thought that should have been 3 points where as I only scored 2 points.
There's a few others that I'm pretty sure I can challenge as well.I'm just a bit unsure what the next move is as i'm pretty sure that I rang up and asked for a copy of the face to face report.I'm pretty sure it has a proper name, but I can't remember as I've had my ESA & IIDB all going on at the same time .With the letter that I got it says PIP.7001 at the bottom,it has a break down of what I received points on and on the back of it it says, My decision, with a pretty bad example of what actually happened at the face to face and no mention what so ever of my wife being present and answering numerous questions on my behalf. So is this what I think I rang up and asked for or should I be waiting on something else as I know that the clock is ticking in relation to me disagreeing with the decision? I know that I can request a mandatory reconsideration ,but is this where I specify where I disagree with different aspects of it rather than just saying that I want a mandatory reconsideration & not giving reasons why?
The only other niggling thing at the back of my mind is,is there a chance of loosing points when I ask for it to be looked at again?
Thanks

Contact the DWP office dealing with your claim for a copy of the assessment report (PA4).

You mention two extra points but can you reasonably score the extra four points you would need for an Enhanced award?

Hi Gordon,
I rang up and said to them that I thought that I'd requested a copy of the assessment report ,but couldn't remember,so the bloke checked and said you requested on the 11th January. So I told him that I haven't received it yet.The response being ,you won't have yet as it's still in the system. Not sure what that even means ,so I said him that i'm aware that there are only 30 days in which to submit a mandatory recon & the clocks ticking. Then as if by magic, well I'll believe it when it happens, he said i'll get it into the post for you today and if I'm submitting a mandatory recon and it's over the 30 days just write on it that the assessment report was requested on 11th January ,but did not get posted out until 5th February. So will wait and s if it arrives in the next few days. In answer to your question do I think I can get the extra 4 points in total ,I can have a good go at trying to as originally I did my own calculations and reasons for what points I thought I should get.
Do you think that I should have got the extra 2 points that I previously said about?
I certainly don't understand the 2 points on washing and bathing as I need help getting in and out of the bath & the shower is over the bath so I thought that should have been 3 points guaranteed as reading the 2 points descriptors ,none of them seem to apply to me.
The only thing that is niggling at the back of my mind is if I request a mandatory recon and specify where I believe that I should have gotten more points is there a risk that they could then decide to take points away from other things or can they not do that?
Thanks

It's possible that you have not explained in sufficient detail why you need a dosette box, your using one will not score you the points, there needs to be a reason why you do, for example; you are unable to organise your tablets, you need them separated into doses as you cannot remember what you take and when, you forget that you have taken a dose have repeated a dose in the past.

In a similar vein did you explain why you cannot use a standard bath and/or shower, what conditions prevent you and how do they restrict your using these?

Hi Gordon,
Thanks for your reply.Sorry it's taken me a few days to get back to you,it's just my heads getting battered with all of the brown envelopes i've got everywhere now.
In answer to both of the questions that you put in your previous post, yes I did explain why I need/use a dosette box although it doesn't say that in the assessment notes and also how I struggle getting in and out of the bath which has been shown in the notes so I'm a little confused by the 2 points & not 3?I'm definately going to request a mandatory reconsideration ,I just need to get my head round that although I've got a bit of time to sort that out as I was told on the phone that if I submit it late, just state that I requested the notes on the 11th Jan ,but the didn't get posted until 5 Feb.
Is there any risk at all of losing points when going through the mandatory recon process or do they just concentrate on the areas that I am challenging ?
I'm sure I've read on here in the past that you don't advise on IIDB claims, but i'm hoping that you might be able to advise on my slight dilema as it's about a mandatory recon on that. I'm more than happy with the award that I have been granted, but the only thing that i'd like them to reconsider is that they want to review my claim in 12 months time ,thinking that my condition might improve after i've seen a specialist physiotherapist trained in CRPS and also after i've seen a psychologist. Where as ,as far as I'm concerned i'm still going to have the same degree of disability no matter who I see as I've already been told that it's a lifelong disability from a pain specialist. So I'm thinking of challenging the review in 12 months time to be changed to a lifetime award. Do you think that it's worth me going down this road or not?
I'll understand if you tell me that you can't pass judgement on IIDB claims.
Thanks

There is a risk to your current award, an MR re-makes the Decision so they can reduce the points or even remove an award but it is very rare for this to happen.

I'm afraid we do not advise on IIDB but I would assume the issues are the same as for the length of a PIP award, you need to provide evidence of the prognosis but don't assume the short award is because they think your conditions will improve, it could be that they expect them to worsen.
