I've got anorexia and I can't prepare/cook food ( live off ice cream)- I don't own a oven microwave or toaster - I got 4 points for preparing food.

This is a fraught situation for me, Gordon, and you're not really helping.

If anyone else is reading this, are microwaved and oven heated ready meals counted as 'cooking' by the DWP?

Can I ask, is it “prepare and cook food” or “prepare or cook food”?
If you can prepare food, with help, but not able to use a cooker what would that come under?

I’m just interested

Thanks

I'm sorry that you are unhappy with my replies, all I can say is that they are based on an understanding of the PIP criteria and the DWP guidance, nearly six years of advising on PIP claims and feedback on the forum.

The activity requires you to use fresh ingredients to prepare and cook a meal, pre-prepared meals do not count for this.

It depends on the Descriptor, for a start Descriptors (a) to (e) refer to a simple meal. Descriptor (f) refers to food, this difference is deliberate.

The test requires the claimant to both prepare and cook, reliably on the majority of days, however, some Descriptors allow points to be scored for problems with just one of these.

The Descriptors are listed and described in the PIP Claim guide.
