EESA was created by jeff
Hello,
First of let me say a big thank you to this site and all that help to run it. Can you tell me if my EESA and PIP would be effected if i move to a different city which is rolling out UC, at the moment i receive contribution based EESA along with housing benefit and council tax relief, if i move to a UC area and apply for housing benefit and council tax relief will i be moved to UC.
Thanks in advance.

You need to find out whether your Housing Benefit includes the Severe Disability Premium in its calculation, if it does then you a barred from claiming UC, contact your Local Authority.

If it does not then you will only be able to claim Housing Benefit through Universal Credit.

PIP is not affected by UC whether you claim it or not.

If you are only receiving ESA(CB) then your ESA will not be affected but it will be deducted from your UC as "other income". Your existing award should be transferred to UC, increasing the amount that it is payable but it is a manual transfer and can take some time, you may need to chase them!

Council Tax is outside of UC but is specific to the LA so you may not receive the same.

Thanks for that gordon, i`m still a bit confused though the ENHANCED part of my ESA is severe disability allowance so no it isn`t in my housing benefit that i receive at the moment but i`m still unsure whether my EESA (CB) or any part of it would be effected by moving to a local authority which is rolling out UC .
Thank you in advance

You said that you were receiving ESA(CB) only so you cannot be receiving any Premiums as part of your ESA. If you do have a Premium being paid then you are either receiving ESA(CB) with an ESA(IR) top-up or you are only receiving ESA(IR).

Any ESA(IR) will be transferred to UC. As I said in my previous post, any EASA(CB) will not be affected but will be deducted from your UC.

Hello
i spoke to citizens advice and was told that if i am receiving SDA i cannot claim UC so my eesa will not be effected by claiming housing benefit, can you please tell me if this is correct.
many thanks

Hi Jeff

If you are receiving a SDP of £65.85 (single person) in with your ESA then what the Citizens Advice have told you is correct, as Gordon has stated earlier SDP is not paid if you are only claiming CB ESA, you have to be in receipt of a top up of IR ESA.

Usually if you move from one local authority to another local authority and claim housing benefit then you will have to claim UC for the housing element unless you are in receipt of a SDP.
