There is normally a window of opportunity to write to the DM before the Decision is made but as three weeks have already elapsed that window may have closed, however, you lost nothing by doing so but you will have to be quick.

Make sure that you state that your letter is not a request for Mandatory Reconsideration but you reserve the right to make such a request when you have received the Decision.

Understand that the assessor is offering an opinion when they say that you can do the PIP activities, tackling these head-on is unlikely to be successful, you need to show that the basis of that opinion is founded on incorrect information, so try and refer to your evidence to undermine what they have said.

Also, try and stick to issues that lead to your scoring points, I often hear members referring to the assessors spelling, as an example, whilst it may show a lack of professionalism, raising it as an issue isn't going to help you get an award.

Lastly, make sure that you understand the criteria that you are being assessed against you can put the best case forward that is possible but you won't score points if you do not meet the PIP Descriptors.

You can request a copy of the PIP assessment report by contacting the DWP office dealing with your claim a couple of days after any assessment.

You can write to the decision-maker before they make their decision if you think there are inaccuracies. It may or may not make a difference.

Oh, I wish I'd known that when we started this procedure - it might have made things a lot easier! We assumed we'd just got to wait until we received this decision.

Who can you ring up for the assessment report please and how long after the assessment?
