Hi All,
With regard to Severe Disability Premium, how long on average should it take to hear if you are able to be awarded SDP? If it is awarded can you make a new claim for Housing Benefit as soon as you have been awarded it ( before the first payment) Does Severe Disability Premium replace/wipe out the "extra money because of the Disability Income Gaurantee" part of my ESA. Sorry for so many questions but these are matters I need to understand/clarify.
Kind Regards,
Rob.

It should only take a couple of weeks but I have heard of a few cases where it has taken significantly longer even after the DWP have been chased.

Speak to your Local Authority, as long as they are happy that you meet the criteria for the Premium then they accept a claim for HB without the Premium actually being in payment.

No, the SD Premium will be paid in addition to the Disability Income Guarantee, actually the Enhanced Disability Premium.

Hi All,
Just an update on this post.
Received very polite phonecall from DWP in Belfast informing myself that my Severe Disability Premium will be payable from 25th December 2019, this after having chased things up.

Hi Rob

I have a similar situation and was wondering if you could give me some advise please?
I am on ESA and in receipt of Enhanced PIP (Daily Living). I have been living back with my parents for a number of years due to my mental health being poorly. I am not currently in receipt of SDP due to living with parents who both work full time. I therefore do not claim housing benefit. I was wondering if you were already claiming housing benefit prior to making a new claim for it? and before applying for HB did you have an underlying entitlement to this? I have spoken to a number of advice agency's and they said they are not sure if I could claim SDP then apply for housing benefit. I believe I will be asked to sign for the property I have been offered this coming week and I have to pay the first full months rent in advance which my parents are helping me with. Did you call ESA and advise of change of address and then ask to claim SDP?
Any help/advice from yourself and any others would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
K

You cannot claim the SD Premium until you are living alone, the DWP will not pay it in anticipation of your doing so. The situation with HB is unclear, once you are living alone and entitled to the Premium in your ESA then you should be barred from claiming UC and able to make a new claim for HB, however, many Local Authorities are taking the requirement to be that the Premium is in payment and this could delay a claim for HB.
