Hi Gordon
Thank you for your speedy response and advice. I will try to make the claim for HB after applying for SDP and hopefully they will allow this.

Hi Kevin
I recently helped a client apply for SDP once they had moved into their own property, once we got SDP, we could then apply for HB, if you tried to apply for HB before getting SDP then LA would inform you to apply for UC.
A notion of warning, when we applied for HB we did request a backdate to the start of the tenancy, but we were informed that we did not have a good enough reason. On the HB application form we did inform the LA that we had to wait to sort out SDP before applying for HB.

Hi All,
Just as an update to my original post, I am claiming ESA (support group) was recently awarded PIP Daily Living only (Standard Rate) I then applied for Severe Disability Premium. I have recently been awarded Housing Benefit but claim it directly through my local Council and not Universal Credit. Still living in Mum's old house since she passed away and bidding on suitable one bed properties (Bungalows).

Hi Rob100
Am I correct in assuming that your mum lived in rented accomodation? you maybe eligible to claim DHP to cover the under occupancy charge whilst trying to find a one bed property.
In regards to ESA, are you in receipt of IR ESA?

Hi Gary,
Yes Mum lived in rented accomodation and I am claiming IR ESA had a letter regarding under occupancy and that my Housing Benefit would be reduced by 25% however when I got my HB decision from the Council it stated full entitlement with no mention of the reduction Ithink there may be a limited time "protection" in cases of Bereavement. But will investigate DHP if the need arises.
Kind regards
Rob.
