PIP Home Assessment was created by gaye
I had my home assessment two weeks ago, unfortunately I was on my own because it was at 10 am and my friend couldn't get to my house for that time. The assessor was very pleasant and didnt ask me to do any moves, she said she was writng this down because I was so breathless and she even told me off for talking more than I should because to the breathlessness. is this a good sign. i have requested a copy of the assessment report today but was told I would have to wait for a decision before challenging if the decision not good. Grateful for any advice. Thank you.

Hi gaye

The assessors are supposed to load up their reports within 48 hours of a face to face. You should be able to ring up any time after that to request a copy of the report (PIP). It usually takes about 5 working days to arrive.

There is a small window for you to write to the Decision Maker but you will need to be quick.

Understand that the assessor is offering an opinion when they say that you can do the PIP activities, tackling these head-on is unlikely to be successful, you need to show that the basis of that opinion is founded on incorrect information, so try and refer to your evidence to undermine what they have said.

Also, try and stick to issues that lead to your scoring points, I often hear members referring to the assessors spelling, as an example, whilst it may show a lack of professionalism, raising it as an issue isn't going to help you get an award.

Make sure that you understand the criteria that you are being assessed against you can put the best case forward that is possible but you won't score points if you do not meet the PIP Descriptors.

Lastly, make sure that your letter makes it clear that you are not requesting a Mandatory Reconsideration but you reserve the right to do so once a Decision has been made.

You might wish to call DWP again Gaye because you are perfectly within your rights to request and RECEIVE a copy of your assessors' report before the claim decision is made.

Morning Gaye

You most definitely want to contact the DWP for a copy of the assessors report.

When I phoned for mine the first time, the gentleman I spoke too implied that it was unusual to send out the HP’s report to a claimant, and that I should wait for the “Official” decision of the DWP Decision Maker. At that time I was advised that it could take up to six weeks, but more like 10-12 weeks (I’m still waiting) before the decision maker even looked at my application, I live in the Shire of Cambridge.

As advised by all the moderators, contact the DWP again and respectfully request a copy of the report. I believe, that as the claimant, you should automatically receive a copy of the assessors report anyway, without having to chase one down. Once I had received my copy, and once I had read it through, several times I then made a spare copy and proceeded to fill in the relevant information that seemed to have been omitted by the CAPITA assessor who visited me at home last December. I then returned it to the DWP, Decision Maker by recorded delivery for their consideration over 6 weeks ago.

I wish you well on your PIP journey Gaye & hope the road is not a bumpy one. Do come back to the forum as the Moderators really know their stuff and if they don’t, I’m sure they’ll find a man (person) who can!!

Best wishes
Sue

Excellent Gaye

You just need to bear in mind that it is not the ‘Official Decision’ but it will give you some idea as to the possible outcome. When I received mine I made sure that I read it through, several times, I tried not to get too stressed about some of the inaccuracies and omissions in the CAPITA report, there were several.

The CAPITA assessor seemed nice enough and I believe, for the most part, was professional and patient with me throughout my 90 minute assessment. However, there were inaccuracies and omissions, but I tried to remain calm while deciding what to do and how best to proceed. I decided to make a copy of the report. I then took each activity in turn and made notes as to the omissions as well as clarifying the inaccuracies. When I was as satisfied as I could be, I wrote a covering letter to The DWP Decision Maker, asking them to consider my amended report, and making it clear that I was not requesting a Mandatory Reconsideration at this time. As I said, I sent it off, Recorded Delivery & received a text to say it had been received. That was 6 weeks ago, so I am trying to remain as patient as possible. I’ve done the best I can, I cannot change anything while waiting so I am not expending precious energy on worrying.

Gaye, you really must come back to the forum if & when you need advice on the next stage of your PIP application. The moderators are very good with all sorts of advice and the members will also chip in when they can. You never know, with luck, you may not have to do anything further with your PIP application.

Best wishes for now
Sue
