PIP stopped- uncertain of terms used. was created by Diddles
Hi- my husband has had his pip decision letter and it has been stopped, despite his condition worsening. He has Bipolar type 1 and has been severely depressed for over a year.
I am going to do a mandatory reconsideration letter as some of the "evidence" is ridiculous. I.e he can make complex budgeting decisions because " he was an engineer". This was before he had a full nervous breakdown at work.
Anyhow, could anyone please explain the following terms they have cited as evidence, please-
MEDs report.
MSE
SOH
I am so grateful in advance. Thank you.

Hi Diddles

MEDs (don't know)
MSE – either Mental State Examination or MusculoSkeletal Examination or Medical Services Examination depending on context
SOH – Social & Occupational History

When you are doing your MR, make sure that you concentrate on the areas where you think he should have scored points and he didn't. In terms of something like the budgeting decisions, you will have to give clear example of how his Bipolar has impacted to the extent that he can't do something like pay a bill. The problem here is that generally they will argue that someone with his educational background has the capability to do it and he is choosing not to do it. (I'm not suggesting that is correct - just telling you their thinking).

Bis- thank you so much for your help. The MEDs are referred to often- saying that his medications are effective. I would really like to know where they got this info from as we have been told by psychiatrist that he is reluctant to increase meds because of potential side effects despite being left in this current depressed state. We spent a recent appointment discussing this- however no contact was made with psychiatrist. Such a huge worry. Thank you for your help. Stay safe.

Diddles

Are the Psychiatrists comments documented? Can you show symptoms of his BiPolar despite the medication?

Hi Gordon- apologies, I've only just seen your reply. Thank you for doing so.

Managed to get letter off psychiatrist- doesn't go into symptoms but does state his condition is "severe and enduring".

On the assessors review, under 'variability' she quotes him with sentences starting "Reports". I understand this means she is quoting what he said.
The report immediately follows in the next sentence with "This impacts ability to complete daily activities such as" ( then listed activities).
Is that her saying he is limited in his ability to do the tasks, being as she did not say "Reports"?
Hope this makes sense. It's crazy- it's almost as if she wrote the second half of her report based on a completely different person to the one she started with. We even had a call from DWP on Easter Monday, questioning discrepancies between what my husband had put on the form and his assessment. They had clearly got him mixed up with someone else as he never claimed he had been in hospital or on crutches for his Bipolar Disorder.

There are so many contradictions it's untrue. It seems as if informal observations were the total basis of her report.
Anyway, sorry to go on- I just value your opinion.
Many thanks indeed.

Just a quick update- it may help others. Just spoken to DWP. "MED's" as stated as "reported as effective" throughout report is not an official abbreviation. There is no report or document stating this- in fact, on the review form and at the assessment I informed them that my husband has been left in this depressed state but psychiatrist is reluctant to increase meds because of physical risks.
It's basically our words against assessors.
Also they reviewed ( without our request) his mobility component without our input after government changes last year ( for mental health) and seem to be using this letter as evidence he does not need me with him on journeys. We put on the form that he does and explained that to assessor ( which she quoted). The DM stated we had not put he needs assistance with journeys.
I'm sorry, I feel for anyone going through this process. There are so many " untruths" it's untrue!
