GP won't give me a copy of my medical record was created by 20wicia09
Hi all,
over 4 weeks ago I asked my GP for a copy of my medical records. They asked me for a reason why I need this so my answear was "supporting evidence for DWP". This morning I received a phone call from GP that they would not like to give me a copy of my records because they charge a fee for that and DWP will ask them for it if necessary. how I supposed to support my pip claim? is this true what she said?

It should now be free to access your GP records. See

Hi 20wicia09
I emailed my GP and asked for a SARS (subject access request) of my medical records which they have to provide for free within 28 days.
In my case, I was unable to collect them but I managed to get them to send electronically by email as nobody was allowed into GPS surgery due to Covid-19.
Good luck.

Hi wing,
A while back I needed to get supportive evidence, and I sent a SARs to my hospital for all my Xray's and MRI scans. I received them all on a CD, which also had an mri file reader software with it. To load and view my mri scan images, which I could convert into jpegs and save on my pc etc. Tjis took all of about 3 weeks in total and at no cost to me at all. This may be relevant in your case as its about your GP, but it's the same.

Hi Gordon and forgive me, probably can't see for looking and am not doubting you, but where exactly on the link you provided above does it mention that requesting copies of your medical records is now free? Or are you talking about simply viewing your records?
I've been out of the loop for a while!!!!!!!1
Kindest of regards

Hi petrocelli
It's on the first line of the link; How to access your health records
There are a number of different types of health record, accessing them is free, and healthcare professionals have a legal requirement to allow you to see them.
