I know some folks have paid there doctors for notes.
I remembered saying to receptionist at doctors why I couldn’t access all of my medicos records she told me wud u like me to book an appointment with the manager I said please.The day cane manager told me u av to pay to see other parts of medical notes .I asked how much and wen he told me I said there is no way am I paying to see my medical records and so I didn’t see my medical notes.Mind u that was a few years back.
The dwp have to pay your doctors to see ur medical notes.

Hi Paul

Prior to the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which came into effect in the UK on 25 May 2018, you have to request a Subject Access Request (SAR) to see your personal file. Under the Data Protection Act (DPA) this would have cost you £10.

An organisation can only charge a fee if it thinks the request is “manifestly unfounded or excessive”. The GDPR sets out seven principles for the lawful processing of personal data. Processing includes the collection, organisation, structuring, storage, alteration, consultation, use, communication, combination, restriction, erasure or destruction of personal data.

It came into effect on 25th May 2018, after which companies must be able to comply with consumers' requests about their data. An organisation has one month to respond to your request, if they do not then you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) ico.org.uk

Hi, me again...........yep now can see the bit on link where it says it's free. However, it's not free for instance to ask for copies of your notes for the last year, is it? Which is the point I was trying to make, the difference between VIEWING/ACCESSING and actually REQUESTING COPIES.

It's FREE to view them, but COPIES are CHARGEABLE? Have I got that right now please?

It used to be the case that Surgeries could charge for phot copies but that is no longer the case unless the request is unreasonable.

If they are still asking for payment then I would escalate the problem to the Practice Manager and ask them why they are not following the NHS guidance.

Gordon, heartfelt thanks for your clarification. Notes are free to view and free to have photocopies supplied by the surgery/hospital.

Great to know as have always paid for my copies in the past.

Hi the mods are totally correct (as always). I myself have requested copies of my son's medical records just on Monday passed there, it's for his dla, and they no longer charge for this service. It's ready to collect today and I have just to chap the door to our GP surgery and they will nip out and pass them to us. They also do not (& should not) ask a reason why you are requesting medical information, they haven't before in our case and we have requested loads over the years lol. :woohoo:
