Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Graham
You did not fail in any way. You managed your fears and you get through it. You can never guarantee what the assessor is going to be like or the result. As hopeless as you are feeling, you got through it and I applaud you for that and you should give yourself a pat on the back. Please reach out to the Samaritans if you struggling this much and remember your friend and the promise you made to your sister.

Hi Graham
I would just like to add my support to what BIS and denby have posted here. You have not failed, I applaud you for getting through the telephone assessment and I hope when you have had the chance to recover from this you will realise this is all about a flawed system and the randomness of who asks the questions at the other end of the phone.
Please do not feel alone, many of us have been negatively affected by the process. We understand and totally get it.
Please come back to the forum, the mods have a wealth of knowledge to guide you and I, and I'm sure many others , would like to offer our support.
Thinking of you.

You definitely didn't fail anything. The assessor failed. To live up to even basic decency. It happens. But this is just the first stage, don't get discouraged. You don't know what the report will be. If it's negative, then appeal (MR). Start writing your appeal now. Gather evidence now.
You are the one in control now, there's no waiting around for someone to judge you. It's likely (in my limited experience) that the MR will just rubber-stamp the assessment. But that's just the next stage. Go on to a tribunal, which the DWP is terrified of (in my limited experience) and they will likely cave in. It's tough, I know. But the worst is over now, whatever happens.
I'm not saying it's plain sailing, but you're in the driving seat. It's all on paper now, and formal. Remember your promises and hold your head high. You've been forced to focus on the negatives, try to think of the next stage as a battle for all of us with disabilities. If you succeed, it helps the next person. If you give up, the DWP has even more reason to make cruelty into the status quo. Please don't give up!

Thank you to everyone, I am ok and will carry on.
I just can’t believe how I am now and coming off the call I just felt degraded. I think was made me so upset was at the end of the call when she hoped my life would improve soon, after the hour she put me through as a frozen robot.
With the appeal after the (MR) would I get to see the letters that the doctor, mental health and physiotherapist wrote?
I’m not going to give up no more pain for my sister. If they want to see my house I once loved and am now ashamed of because o can’t keep on top of things they are welcome to investigate every part of my life, I have nothing to hide.
Thank you again everyone, can’t begin to say how much it has helped.

Hi Graham
Thank you for letting us know - that you're going to carry on. So glad to hear it. I know you felt degraded, but please don't let this person, who does not know you, let you feel like that. They are not worth your time, or your thoughts.
One step at a time. You can ring and ask for your report and it should arrive between 6 - 10 days. If you are not happy with that report - there will be a small time to write before the decision comes out.
After the decision, then an MR if necessary and then an appeal if it is worst-case scenario. At the Appeal, you will be able to see all paperwork. Those letters should be with your doctor - so you could make an access request for your medical records when you are ready. However, this is looking far ahead - so put in a request for your assessment report. Please only do this if you feel well enough to manage whatever it says.

Graham, you have been so brave in carrying on with this.
Suffering with depression/anxiety myself I know how hard it is and I've had support from family and health staff so please don't allow yourself to think that you have failed - you haven't.
After my assessment I couldn't place what I was feeling and then I realised I felt bullied! When I read my report my initial reaction was to just walk away and have nothing more to do with the DWP but then I realised that (for me) doing that would mean letting the bullies win and that helped me to carry on and complain which is what I have done. It isn't just about the money but is about not letting the b******s win.
Yes, it is hard and I was fortunate with my support but I've found that just not allowing myself to be bullied has been positive for me.
