PIP Telephone Assessment Review- Over 65 was created by Lynno1981
Hello
My husband was awarded PIP in 2017 we then went through review in July 2018 then Mandatory Reconsideration and Appeal and got his award reinstated in Aug 2019 ...
In October 2019 he had further spinal surgery with the various complications from that and during lock-down received no Physio etc. As a result his condition deteriorated and in March this year he had an episode with his back trauma resulting in paramedics attending the house to treat him. We decided that his health had deteriorated so much we would ask for a review. My husband turned 66 in May and we have just had the telephone assessment today 1hr 25 mins .He has standard for both parts - if they agree his condition has worsened can his award be increased now he is past retirement age? I'm feeling slightly anxious as I think I read it can but hoping we have not put ourselves through this ordeal if it cannot. Many thanks in advance

Lynn

Hi Lynno, I'm not a mod, but from what I have read on here, deterioration in mobility after pension age cannot be given increased mobility. So the question is whether you can prove the deterioration was before or after pension age, which is not 65 for every [male] body any more.
I am sure the mods will be along with more info presently,
best wishes,
Denby

Hi Lynno,

Denby is spot on. The mobility component of PIP cannot be increased after state pension age, although daily living can.

As the others have stated they are right, this is the full legislative guidance regarding mobility component ...

The law says the mobility component for claimants over age 65 can't be increased. Whilst [Title] [Surname]'s walking ability may have deteriorated, the level of [his her] mobility component award can't increase as this occurred after [he she] reached age 65. Therefore, [Title] [Surname] is still entitled to standard rate of mobility component.

Just jumping in to say that ‘age 65’ should now read ‘State Pension Age’.

Catherine I agree with you now that should read now 66 as we know this is the latest retirement age.
