PIP assessor sitting in on online pain management

I don't think it is an ironic name, it says his name beside it. I'm not sure the exact letters after his name but it definitely said PIP and the name of the building in which the offices are. I'll check the exact details on Wednesday after the course.
I've realised the course is mainly about positive attitude and mindfulness, something I've already been through with a counsellor and physiotherapists but I'm just willing to do anything just for a bit of help.
I was just a little worried that having someone sitting in on these meetings may indicate that when it's over I've been "cured" of my pain. I suppose if most people think its not a serious issue I'll take that advice.
Thanks for all opinions my mind is a bit easier now

Hi Tessybell,

My experience over the decades can only confirm that pain management is a total waste of time, for sufferers like myself with multiple physical disabilities, that affect your daily life every day and night.

Talking about your pains in my view is a waste of space, it wont miraculously rid you off your pain. The only way pain management that helps even if its very short term, is by having the injections off your local hospitals pain specialists.

But many areas across Britain has had funding cut at their local hospitals, so it's just down to these so-called pain management courses=, which is a cheaper option. May well work for some people with very minor short-term ailments, but certainly not the chronically ill people whose health is on the ever decline.

Which by the way is not going to help people with severe chronic anxiety and depression, and such alike. Going on a course with such illnesses / conditions will mean your fit to graft, otherwise why did you go on the course then if you suffer with severe anxiety etc.

Good luck

Well said Mr Fibro. And it should also be known that for anyone with Autism or Asperger's, any approach based on CBT will simply not work due to their different neurology. Sadly many doctors and assessors are not aware of this. Many are also negative towards patients thinking they might be "on the spectrum". So if this might be you, try the NHS approved AQ50 questionnaire online and research doing a self referral. There are a lot of undiagnosed people out here! About 46,000 were actually referred for assessment last year alone as best I can read the .gov website and most of those will still have a year or more to wait before getting their official assessment and diagnosis, obviously a few will be told they are not either autistic or Asperger's but I suspect not many.
Best wishes particularly on this thread to all the chronic pain and fibro sufferers [like our daughter] reading this,
Denby

Hi I had my course and I checked the name of the guy I thought was the assessor. It actually says his name followed by NISSA PIP BELFAST. I don't think he is from Atos or capita but I'm not sure.
Because I've had to deal with this pain for so long now I've already picked up most of the techniques they're discussing. I do as much as I can despite pain because it keeps me from being depressed and lacking any self esteem.
I was told I had to do this course to have access to pain injections.
I had the injections about 6 years ago then, because it had been outsourced to a private hospital, my details were lost and I wasn't called back again despite hundreds of phone calls and emails. I was put on a waiting list after seeing my surgeon and this is the first I've had anything done

From what I can find online, that may be the Northern Ireland Social Security Agency. The plot thickens.

Hi all,

Without wasting too much cyberink, I also think that there is something not quite right here: it doesn't stack up.

I would be very wary. It does seem to be a breach of confidentiality. Will that person stick to the rules or stray to the different rules the DWP employ?

Regards,

Phrank.
