Managed Migration. Proving identity. P60U was created by Dellilah
So i’ve received the dreaded migration notice and have yet to set up my UC account or attempt to migrate. I know that I will have an issue verifying my ID online as I don’t have a valid passport or drive, or have any of the other documents they will accept. In your guide it says I can use a recent P60. I’ve just realised i have a P60U because I haven’t worked in a very long time. Will this be acceptable as one form of identity verification? Is it the same as a P60?

Hi Delilah
It is very difficult to pre-empt the UC ID process all you can do is follow the online instructions. If you are fortunate it works , if not you get the message that UC will phone you. Having said that some people who have completed online ID verification also get the phone call.
For the online check the Passport and Driving licence must not have expired. But the same expired docs can be used face to face at the Jobcentre.

Thanks for your reply, David. My last passport is so old and I look completely different so that’s no good. I also suffer with social anxiety and fear of the face to face, so am hoping that I can request telephone verification if the online process fails (which I’m pretty sure it will) as I have absolutely no valid photo ID.
If they do the biometric verification thing of asking questions on the phone, does anyone have any idea what sort of things they might ask? So for example, if they ask when my claim for esa began I have no idea (well, a rough idea of the year but only ballpark) because it’s been many years since.
Also just realised from reading around re the p60u that I’ve been on contribution based esa with an income related top up for all these years. Who knew?! So my further question is, as long as the universal credit claim is successful will my esa (the contribution based part) roll on even if I’m waiting for my first universal credit payment? I know the UC will be reduced to account for the esa which will become new style esa, so I won’t get any ‘extra’, but given esa is paid fortnightly I just wondered if that would roll on as if there hadn’t actually been any changes.
I hope that makes sense. This whole process is stupidly complicated. Why they can’t just transfer people over themselves using data held on file, I’ll never know.

The P60 option for verifying identity online has been removed. There are now only 3 items that can be used and you need 2 of them. One is a passport, another is to answer questions on your credit record. I can’t remember the other one. I had none of them but wrote on my journal to request a biographical phone call and they were fine with that. I only began migration in early June so I doubt it’s been changed again

Hi Dellilah
In my limited experience - the over the phone verification has been easily completed. I will give you two examples that have happened in the three weeks.
1. A couple - Husband was asked to confirm - date of birth, national insurance number, and current address with postcode. He was then asked to confirm what benefits he was on. Then he was asked what his last address was. This could have thrown him off, because it is 19 years - but he was able to get it and the caller confirmed he had answered all the questions. The wife was asked to confirm date of birth, and national insurance number and what benefits she was on. The caller confirmed the wife' s identity had been confirmed. They were then told that there would be no further need for any interviews, told when UC would start and asked if they wanted an advance (no). Later received a note in both journals saying UC would be paid - three days earlier than what the called had told them.
2. A single person - asked to confirm her name and the last four digits of the reference number on her UC letter. She was then asked to confirm all the benefits she was on - starting from now and working backwards to when she started. I think this was a ridiculous question - but my friend was able to go back forty years and give the right answers in the right order. Her identity was confirmed and she was told when her UC would be paid.
In neither of the cases did any of these people have to provide any of the evidence that they say you will be asked about.
Hope this helps.
I assume your ESA contribution should continue as before.

I did my UC application last week and submitted it today. *work out your money to see which date works best for you*.
I want my UC payment to arrive at the end of the month, so I can pay my rent on the 1st of the month.
Once you REGISTER, you have 28 days to complete the UC application.
Regarding ID.
I only have a passport so can’t complete online. They told me they would phone me. I put in a journal entry to say I found this triggering and needed to know when that would be as I don’t answer unknown numbers. I also told them their list of ID was too restrictive.
Anyway. There was something on the system which told me I had to verify my ID by 21st July (which gives me a month). So hopefully all will be well. I was worried, but that gives me breathing space etc.
