PIP Review New AR1 form was created by Alison A
I have the new PIP review form for the first time. I have read your very helpful guide but am so nervous and worked up about completing it. My previous reviews obviously asked if anything had changed which it hasn’t,it’s just everything is harder,but the way the questions are worded means I don’t understand how I can answer. I have several mental health problems,GAD,BPD are just two. I received a late diagnosis of autism and ADD with mild dyspraxia which was included on my last review. I’ve read your info on answering but even the first question says if you choose not to cook please tell us how you would manage if you did cook. This feels like saying if you’re at the base of Everest tell us how you would climb it even if you’re not a climber. My depression,anxiety ASD ,for me,means I don’t cook. If my husband was not here I wouldn’t eat so how can I described how I would cook a meal? I could pick something out of the fruit bowl or maybe a piece of cheese from the fridge or yoghurt. This has me so anxious I’m feeling physically sick. My husband is nearby 70 and does everything. The PIP payment is a godsend as I still have 2 years to wait until I receive my state pension . I’m so scared that these new forms are worded so I’ll fail to receive any points I did in the past and I’ll be even more of a drain on him than I am now. My words not his,any help would be greatfully received.

Hi Alison

Welcome to the forum.

You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum.

Did you keep a copy of your previous review form, if you did use it as a template as make any changes necessary. I usually list any condition in date order, medication and any side effects from the medication.

The review form is smaller than the initial claims form, if you need additional paper, don't forget to number the pages and add your name and NI number.

Completing forms can be very daunting, it's best to concentrate on one question a day so as not to over do things, add any supporting documents such as repeat prescription list, even from your husband as to what support he gives and why, the why part is the important part.

If you don't cook then say so and why you don't cook:

If you haven't done so already, have a look at the members guides which give information about all the descriptors, and what to consider. Here's a link;
www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/personal-independence-payment-pip-2

Go through all the descriptor activities, have a think what difficulties you have. So for example, descriptor 1.- can you cook a simple meal for one, using fresh ingredients? If not why?

Can you peel and chop veg? Maybe you have painful hands and can't grip a knife?

Maybe you are hopeless with timings don't understand if food is cooked?

You might get distracted and leave food on the hob burning it to a crisp? Perhaps you can't read packets, perhaps you have poor eyesight? Maybe there are other problems such as you can't stand up in the kitchen, or can't even get out of bed to get to the kitchen? Do you need prompting? Perhaps some other problem causes cooking difficulties?

Get a blank piece if paper and write down all the problems you have with cooking. It is likely that you will be able to quantify mental or physical health problems or some combination of the two.

So maybe you have problems but not everyday Have a think why you are ok some days and not others. Fatigue? Medication? Something else?
