I am glad that CAB were able to give you helpful advice. We know that PIP will replace DLA from next year, but I am not aware of any other changes in the pipeline.

Maybe that's what it was then. <helpless shruggy smiley>

The CAB spoke to someone (? luckily I wrote it down!) who suggested I apply for DLA. If I'm eligible I'll certainly wish I had discovered this website and the CAB 5 1/2 years ago. Ho hum.

Thanks for everything so far.

Apparently benefits are changing, or there's going to be changes to the benefits, (or something else I can't remember) next April (?) but I don't know what.

This sort of goes along with what the helpful person at DWP told me yesterday when I asked about what happens after 365 days if I can't work or sign on or claim ESA, which was along the lines of "something is being looked at but we don't know what" or something. Forgive the vagueness, it's been a long week and I am like a zombie.

The Universal Creit which will replace Income Related ESA, will also begin implementation from next year, this may mean that some, currently unable to claim ESA(IR) will be able to claim its replacement.

Sorry - I had temporarily forgotten that the move to UC will affect those on IR ESA!

Have you heard of any plans for those of us who will be unable to claim JSA or ESA after the end of the 365 days?

Is the universal credit solely for those on Income related ESA and not those on contributory ESA?

As far as I am aware, there are no plans for those of us who will not be paid ESA after the 365 days. As I said, the NI contributions will be paid for as long as the ESA claim is active. Anyone assessed as not being eligible for IR benefit is supposed to have enough money to live on...

Yes, the Universal Credit is gong to replace most Income Related benefits, so it will replace IR ESA but not Contributary ESA.
