I used some medical evidence that was from 10 years ago. This explained that i have a degenerative condition, and that I was not able to mobilise 50 metres. As my condition is degenerative I argued that this means I am not able to mobilise that distance now.

Hope this helps

Hi PC,

Perfectly feasible, and I think that is what Gordon is saying. :)

I too have used evidence for friends that was several years old.

The important issue is then to show that this evidence is still pertinent to ones current limitations.

Obviously, the more up to date any medical evidence is, the better.

Hi thanks for your advice so far, am really worried as my main carers (my parents) are going on a much needed holiday for 3 weeks at the end may beginning June and my ESA form has to be returned by 17th May. My dr is explaining I will need. A home assessment, but in the case of me having to attend a centre will be impossible for me to get there. Is putting the 3 weeks they are away and why a valid enough reason in the "times and dates in next 3 months you cannot go to a face to face assessment"

Also are they carried out on a weekend does anyone know, or just Monday to Friday? Many thanks

It could take months for ATOS to see you for a face-to-face assessment. However, just in case they do get their collective fingers out, it is certainly worth writing down any days that your carers would be away. Be warned that the ATOS people who make the appointments do not actually have access to that information so you might get an appointment for one of those days anyway (don't worry, you can change it)!

Assessments are carried out at weekends sometimes - certainly on Saturdays, I am not sure about Sundays. I don't know whether this also applies to home assessments, perhaps one of the other mod's will be able to comment on this.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi if I have to go to a face to face assessment how much notice do they have to give me, will they try by telephone (I only answer to phone numbers I recognise) or by letter? Thanks

Hi M98,

If you are required to attend a face to face, ATOS may well try to arrange this over the phone.

You do not have to answer any phone calls that you do not wish to.

If they cannot make phone contact, they will write to you, and they should give you at least 7 days notice of any such appointment.

They can offer an earlier appointment, but only if the claimant agrees to it.

Once an appointment is made, a claimant is allowed to rearrange once.

There is more information available on the ATOS website :
