I'm a little concerned now just checked my letter and I'm only on contribution based ESA, what happens after the year is up, do I reapply?

It will depend on your circumstances. If you were transferred from another benefit such as IB to ESA, then you cannot make a new claim, however, if this was a new claim for ESA and you were working immediately before the claim, then it may be possible for you to again meet the Contribution requirements for ESA(CB).

You may also be eligible to claim Income Related ESA as a replacement for your ESA(CB), this will be dependant on your personal circumstances which include your family income, assets and savings and any hours that a partner works, see

Asset rule for ESA(IR)

24 hour work rule for ESA(IR)

For your partner to receive Carers Allowance you would need to be in receipt of DLA with an award of Medium or Higher Rate Care, they will need to provide 35 hours per week of care and cannot earn more than £100 a week in addition pay, after deductions..

The current CA rate is just under £60.

CA will not affect your ESA(CB), but will be counted as income for ESA(IR) although you would also receive the Carers Premium.
