PIP Mandatory Reconsideration - Driving a Car was created by John McLelland
Hi, I have just had a Mandatory reconsideration. My mobility car has been taken off me though I have got the standard mobility. The notice seems to be hung up on me driving a car, they are calling driving an unadapted automatic car ' a multi tasking activity requiring substantial cognitive powers of thought, perception, memory, reasoning, concentration, judgement and coordination as well as upper body strength in your arms and hands to operate the mechanics of the car safely ....'
They dont want to accept that I have no strength in my hands, crippled with arthritis and I have little upper body strength also due to arthritis. I'm going to appeal but has anyone else had similar, what are they trying to prove. to me they are off topic but there thinking is warped.
I would welcome thoughts or suggestions. Previously they said I had driven a manual car and that proved the above also. I cannot drive a manual as I cannot change gear or operate a clutch. Are they clutching at straws?

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is
Welcome to Benefits and Work
In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ
My full name is showing, how can I stop it?
These are confusing comments, the reference to multi tasking, etc., are related to your scoring points in the Going Out activity and are reasonably valid, but the grip comments are not relevant to either of the PIP Mobility activities althought they may have an impact on some of the Daily Living Ones.
As you had a car how did you qualify before? Was it a DLA award or did you have a PIP Enhanced award?
