My son is currently in the support group of ESA and is considering taking a college course, with a view to eventually being in a position to go on to starting permitted work. But he’s unsure if he will be allowed to do this whilst on ESA ?
It will depend on the course and the type of ESA he is receiving.
If he is only receiving Contribution Based ESA then he should be able to undertake the course without problem.
If he receives Income Related ESA and the course is not full time then he should be OK, however, if it is full time then he can only do it if he also receives DLA or PIP.
